چکیده

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of therapeutic ultrasound upon some functional parameters in dogs with stifle joint osteoarthritis. Experimental osteoarthritis was induced in 6 mixedbreed dogs by injections of sodium monoiodoacetate in the left knee joint. The right joint served as control. The clinical and goniometric status of dogs was monitored at post injections days 1, 30, 60, 105 and 130. Therapeutic ultrasound was applied between days 105 and 130 using a 1 cm transducer, 3 MHz frequency, power density 1.20 W/cm2 and a pulsed wave duty cycle of 1/2 (impulse time/interval). Nine procedures were performed. Synovial fluid viscosity was also improved without alterations of its volume. Therapeutic ultrasound improved the clinical status, increased the muscle mass of the affected limb, the motility but not the circumference of the osteoarthritic knee joint in dogs. This physical factor had a beneficial effect on physicochemical properties of synovial fluid. At the same time, ultrasound therapy did not influence the chronic fibrous alterations in soft tissues.

Extra-articular Stabilization of Cranial Cruciate Ligament-deficient Stifle in Dogs: a New Tibial Suture Anchor Point

We described a new surgical procedure of extra-articular stabilization of cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) deficient stifle using nylon cable tie (NCT) anchored in a new tibial anchor point. Lateral fabellotibial tension band (LFTB) stabilization procedure was described in 10 mixed breed dogs. The degree of lameness was scored and complete physical examination of each dog was performed. Radiogra...

Surgical model of osteoarthritis secondary to medial patellar luxation in dogs

This study was performed to make a surgical model of osteoarthritis (OA) in the dog. Experimental medial patellar luxation (MPL) was surgically produced in the left stifle (index) of 24 skeletally mature mixed small breed dogs (age two to six years and weight 2.8 to 9 kg). The animals were randomly allocated in 2 groups; sham group (n = 12), where the right stifle was sham operated and control ...

An experimental model of osteoarthritis; early morphological and biochemical changes.

An experimental model of osteoarthritis resulting from laxity of the joint was induced in eighteen mature dogs (at least two years old) by sectioning the anterior cruciate ligament of the right knee (stifle) with a stab incision, the left knee providing a control. A sham operation was also performed in three other dogs, in which a stab incision was made but the ligament left intact. The dogs we...
